Welcome Baby Matthew William MacKaben! Week 1

I mentioned in my last blog post at 38 weeks pregnant that it could be my last pregnancy post and I was right!
Matthew William MacKaben was born one day before 39 weeks on May 2, 2014 at 8:58 p.m. ~ 9 pounds, 20 inches. A perfect baby boy. We're so in love and our lives have been changed forever, he's amazing.

As I did for my pregnancy I'm going to continue to blog about Matthew and my Mommy experiences.

Coming home from the hospital and meeting Mac the pup. Mac is so good with Matthew and loves him already.

Coming home from the hospital outfit.

Weight/length: We went to our first doc appointment 2 days after we came back from the hospital and he was 8 pounds 6 oz 20 inches long (dropped a little weight after birth). Our next appointment was on Friday and he weighed 9 pounds 10 oz. and 21 1/2 inches long! He has gained 10 oz over his birth weight and 1 1/2 inches  - he's a growing boy!

Sleep: In his first week Matthew slept a lot and I kept having to wake him up to feed every 3 hours. It felt silly to be waking up a sleeping baby, but I was told to do this so he would eat often and gain back the weight he lost after birth. At our two week appointment he was back and over the weight so the pediatrician said we didn't need to wake him up at night to feed, but of course he wakes up every 2-3 hours :) During the day he eats, stays awake for a little and then back to napping...usually sleeps between 2 and 3 hours during the day too.

Health: He's a really healthy baby! He had a little jaundice when he was born and once he got his system going it went away. He had a few sun tanning sessions in the window and that helped as well.

Clothes: He's wearing 0-3 months and most of the clothes that fit him are 3 months. He's a big boy! I had a few newborn outfits that I squeezed on him for the first few days, but now they are too small. I love the zip up onesies they are really easy when you're changing him all the time. I don't like to put things over his head, but I just have to get used to it! It's fun playing dress up with him and changing his outfits, if he doesn't cry :)

Visitors: We've had so many wonderful visitors in the hospital and since we've been home. It's so special to see all of our family and friends meet Matt. We're so blessed to have such a wonderful network of support.

Diet: MILK!! He just drinks and drinks...the first week was hard because he was so sleepy.
Baby Gear/Accessories: It's fun to  start putting all of the "things" to use. We took him for a walk in the Bugaboo stroller with my parents and Todd's Mom when we first got home and it was great to get out. The Chicco Key Fit 30 car seat has been great and the stroller that goes with it we're keeping in the car so we can use it when we go to doctor's visits and it's easy to just put the car seat in on the go.

I was happy to get a Starbucks latte the first week home.

Crying: In the first week the crying was really only when he was hungry, needed his diaper changed, or needed to be burped. He's such a good baby.

Adventures: In the first week we took Matt to the pediatrician, I went to the doctor, and a few walks down Union Street. We also did a newborn photo shoot with Jackie! Here is a peak at some of the photos on Jackie's website.

Likes: The first week it was all about skin to skin and cuddles :) He's a little cuddle bunny.

Postpartum/Mommy feeling: We were at the hospital for 4 days because I had a c-section, so really most of the first week was at the hospital. It was great having help from my parents and mother-in-law - we couldn't have gotten through the first two weeks without all of the help and support!!

Disclaimer...I'm writing this blog post on very little sleep :)
