Matthew William ~ 5 Weeks

Weight/length: We went to Matthews 1 month appointment last Thursday and he weighed 12 pounds 9 ounces and 24 inches long! He's a growing boy.

Sleep: Last week was about the same as the previous week, 2 1/2 to 3 hours stretches, but now it's about 3-4 hour stretches. For me it's about 2-3 hours between feedings, with the diaper changing and bouncing back to sleep. I'm much less tired and getting used to the nighttime "naps" :)

Health: He's a healthy boy and everything was great at his 1 month appointment. He had to get the second shot of Hep B, which wasn't fun for any of us. I couldn't even look when he got the shot.

Clothes: Matt is definitely wearing 3 month clothes now. I went to put on a 0-3 month outfit from Gap and it wouldn't fit over his head :( He's getting big so fast! Thank goodness most of our friends gave us 3-6 month clothes, knowing we were probably going to have a big baby.

Visitors: We haven't had as many visitors over the past week, but we've gotten to spend time as a little family. Last weekend we stayed in the neighborhood and just relaxed. We visited with Justin, Ava, and Emma and I took lots of pictures of the cute little girls with Matthew.

Diet: Lots of milk! Todd has been giving Matt a bottle in the evenings and I've been going for a little walk with Mac, so that's nice. He's getting better at taking the bottle and used to his Daddy giving it to him.

Baby Gear/Accessories: I purchased the Skip Hold Safari Activity Gym and Matt's loving it. In the mornings when I'm getting ready he'll lie in it for about 10-15 minutes and stare up at all of the little hanging toys. He's starting to see a little further and his eyes are tracking so it's fun for him to have something to stare at until he gets bored.I would recommend this one because the hanging toys are so cute.
I want to be sure to keep track of all of the things that I've found useful over the past few weeks, I can't forget the "My Brest Friend" this has been great for nursing and makes it so you can feed hands free :) I've figured out how to eat a bowl of cereal while feeding...haha!

Crying: His crying has been a little more over the past week, they say that between 4-6 weeks is really when they find their lungs and the crying can be more intense. He sometimes has a hard time going to sleep and when he gets over tired he lets us know with a very strong cry.

Adventures: Last week was my birthday so Matt and I had lunch with Monica at Delarosa- so yummy! My mother-in-law was in town, so Matt got some special time with Grandma while we went to dinner - our first night out without baby! Then, on Friday my parents came to visit, so Matt got to spend time with Nonnie and Papa.

I had my friends Mariana and Denisse over with their adorable baby girls!

Matt got to meet my Mom's girlfriends that she grew up with in Berkeley  - we call them the YaYas :) These ladies are all very special to me.

We hung out in the shade by the pool with Ava and Emma! Matt's best little girl friends.

What Mommy's Learning:
  • Don't procrastinate your shower in the morning when you have a 1 month old. When that morning nap happens get in and out as fast as you can.
  • If you're breastfeeding don't leave the house on an adventure without some healthy snacks - you get hungry really fast.
  • When you do the first diaper change in the morning put on the babies outfit so he's dressed for the day - one thing that is done, unless he poops through his outfit, which happens often!
Likes: Matt likes the mornings and being milk drunk. He's the happiest after he's eaten or had a good nap. Over the past 2 weeks he's gotten a lot more awake and content with just relaxing in his swing and looking around - he's really starting to become more aware of what is going on around him.

Postpartum/Mommy feeling: I've been feeling great! It's been nice over the past week to get out and about and I love all the walking and being outside that we've been doing. I definitely have one easy day and then one harder day...on off, on off... it's funny how this happens. One day everything seems to run so smoothly and then one day everything feels a little off. Even when we're having the "off" day it doesn't matter because I look at Matthew and feel so lucky to have such a beautiful baby boy.

I can't forget to mention that we got to go out to dinner without baby on my birthday - we were away for 2 hours between feedings thanks to my mother-in-law "Grandma". We were eager to get back to Matt, but enjoyed the adult time :)

Disclaimer #4...I'll only keep using this until he's 18 year's old...just kidding - but, I'm going to use this for a few more months until I get 8 hours of sleep.
