Matthew William ~ 14-15 Months

Weight/length: Matt had his 15 month appointment today he's in the 99 percentile - 33 inches long and 29.5 pounds. BIG BOY!

Sleep: Sleep is overrated we've decided...Matt isn't a good night sleeper. He still loves his morning nap although it has gotten a little later. He usually takes a morning and afternoon nap, but I can tell it's only a little while until it merges into one nap.

Health: Matt's been super healthy and even though I had a bad cold earlier this summer he stayed healthy!

Clothes: 2t - he's thinned out a little from being so active so some of the 2t stuff is a little big. It's hard to try things on toddlers, but I find myself buying things and then returning all the time.

Baby Gear/Accessories: With a sunny summer and being on vacation in Hawaii it's important to protect Matt from the sun. I really like the GAP UV protection swim shirt, Babyganics sunscreen, baby BigTruck Brand hat - mesh on top so it keeps his head cool, and of course all of the adorable swim trunks

We got a trailer for the bike and he's loving that - we decided on the Schwinn Trailblazer - it rides nicely and Matt loves it. He even fell asleep in it :)

We're loving using the backpack in Hawaii - we got the Osprey Poco and so far Matt's liked it. It's too heavy for me to carry, but Todd says it's comfy.

Development: Matt is almost walking...he's pulling himself up and walking along the couch and coffee table. He's standing and his balance is getting much better. Over the past week he has been able to stand longer without holding on to anything. I would give it 3-4 weeks until he'll take his first step with no help! I'm so excited to see this, especially after the femur fracture it feels good to know he's okay!

Matt's vocabulary has increased just in the last few weeks. He's saying ball, boat, hot, baseball (kind of ;), duck, and he's really into books and loves his favorite one First 100 Words - board book.

Eating: He's eating everything, his favorites are avocado {hasn't changed}, turkey, chicken, cheese, bread, and bananas. He's gotten a little more particular with veggies - he likes broccoli with pesto. I still give him the organic veggie packs about once a day just so he's getting more veggies. When we're traveling the packs are great and easy for the beach.

Crying: Now it's just a cry when I take something away that he wants. Example... Matt held on to a spatula for most of the day and when it was finally time to give it up he screamed - yes, a spatula :)

He's had a few little tantrums as expected with a toddler...I'm sure there will be many more!

Adventures:  The biggest adventure of the past two months has been Hawaii! Hawaii is one of my favorite places, so it was fun to share it with Matt. We like to stay in the northern part of Kauai in Hanalei. There have been lots of firsts ~ beaches, sand, ocean, boogie boards, smoothies, hula and Hawaiian music {he love dancing to the music}, and a big time change. Matt has been a great traveler and putting up without a morning nap, different bed time and routine. It's definitely different traveling with a toddler and we try to compromise with his schedule and "our" schedule.

We had an awesome 4th of July in Lake County with Grandma, Janice and friends! Matt got to ride the wave runner for the first time with Todd and go out on a boat. It's fun to see Todd sharing adventures with Matt that he experienced as a child.

Postpartum/Mommy feeling: When you travel you definitely realize how different life is with a baby. It's awesome in a "different" way and don't get me wrong it's a ton of fun, especially at this age when Matt has so much personality and keeps us laughing and on our toes. When I say different I mean...luggage - STUFF! You just need a lot of it. Naps - they need them to be happy, pushing on without a nap is no fun - if you want to have fun they need them. Dinner time - yes, we enter a restaurant at 5:30 pm. - length of dinner = FAST. You don't sit around and have cocktails, appetizers, etc... eat, drink, and head out!
Beach - it takes preparation - sunscreen, hat, snacks (sand sensitive) raisins are bad, bananas are the best, and be prepared for LOTS of SAND EVERYWHERE!  If you've missed a nap that sandy pacifier is your best friend - in Matt's case it's a sandy Wubbanub.
But, with all of these things I can't complain. Matt is such a good baby and it's so fun traveling with him and watching him discover new smells, tastes, and sites. I'm lucky to have such a helpful husband and a baby who is a great traveler. I can't wait for our next adventure as a family.

  Aloha,
  xoxo
